Medical insurance
Access to health care services for international students in Hungary varies depending on their country of origin and the type of scholarship they participate in. The following information outlines the entitlements for different groups and presents the university’s recommended private health insurance option.
EU/EEA citizens
Citizens of the EU/EEA and Swiss citizens, as well as persons insured in these states, shall be provided with medically necessary healthcare services during their temporary stay in Hungary on the basis of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC or EU Card).

Non-EU citizens
- Stipendium Hungaricum and Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship holders:
Students studying in Hungary under the Stipendium Hungaricum or the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship are entitled to a range of health services as part of their scholarship. The scholarship includes public health care services (TAJ card) and supplementary private medical insurance.Further information on how to apply for these health services will be sent to you by the Stipendium and Diaspora office. - Self-funded students:
Students must ensure that they have adequate health insurance coverage for the duration of their studies in Hungary. Proof of valid insurance may also be required when applying for a residence permit. Therefore, each student must contract the insurance individually and bear the associated costs.
